鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Get involved early and try different extracurricular activities because they can help you meet new people, build connections, and find things you genuinely enjoy. At the same time, do not overload yourself trying to do everything at once. Make sure to take care of yourself and get enough sleep every night because you will honestly be a lot happier and feel better overall.

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

I will miss being able to see everyone I know every day. When I first started freshman year, I thought high school was going to feel slow, but now it feels crazy that it is already almost over. I鈥檒l miss the familiar faces in the hallways, being part of orchestra, volunteering with people I knew through Key Club, and going to club meetings with friends. Those everyday moments felt normal at the time, but looking back, they are what made high school meaningful.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I am most excited to continue my journey and keep working hard to become the best version of myself. I鈥檓 excited to learn new things, and continue growing through dedication and hard work while working toward the goals I have for my future.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My dad inspires me the most because he is one of the hardest-working people I know. Growing up, I saw how much effort and patience he put into supporting our family, even when things were not always easy. The way he keeps going and stays responsible makes me want to be like him. He has taught me that hard work is not just about one big moment, but about showing up every day and doing your best.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 your favorite high school memory?

One of my favorite memories was performing with my orchestra because it reminded me how much I had grown as a musician and how meaningful it was to be part of a group that worked hard together.

精东影业 Collegiate High School senior Giovanni Roman has earned one of the most prestigious scholarships in the nation: the . The award provides him with a full four鈥year college education at the , including tuition, room and board, medical benefits, and travel expenses.听

The QuestBridge scholarship is a highly competitive national program that connects high鈥achieving students from low鈥income backgrounds with top colleges and universities across the country. For Roman, the opportunity represents more than financial support; it marks a pivotal milestone for both him and his family.听

鈥淚 saw the QuestBridge program and it covers four years for top schools,鈥 Roman said. 鈥淚 was really interested in that because it would be life changing, and it would really help out my family a lot with paying for my college.鈥听

Roman first learned about QuestBridge as a junior while researching scholarships. Like many students, his original plan was to stay in Texas.听

鈥淥riginally I was kind of more committed to applying to TCU and UT Austin, more in鈥state schools,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut I also was planning on applying to a couple of schools like Harvard or Stanford.鈥听

精东影业 Collegiate counselor Danielle Ely helped guide Giovanni through the QuestBridge application process by assisting with recommendations, transcripts, and essay support. Ely said Giovanni stood out early on.

鈥淗e鈥檚 a leader here on campus. He鈥檚 involved in several activities and very influential with his peers,鈥 she said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 a hard鈥working student, has a great GPA, and steps out of the box to take initiative.鈥听

Roman said the achievement carried special meaning for his family, and he is especially thankful for support from his mother during his journey to college.听

鈥淔our years ago, I wouldn鈥檛 have imagined I would have gotten a full ride scholarship to a really good school like Notre Dame,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 just an accomplishment for me, but also for my mother. She put in a lot of work, helping me and supporting me in my academic journey. I really feel like the work that we put in paid off.鈥

Following his acceptance, Roman recently had the opportunity to visit Notre Dame, where he toured campus and explored student life. During his visit, Roman learned more about student organizations, academic programs, and volunteer opportunities and said he looks forward to getting involved in clubs and activities that align with his interests during his time at Notre Dame.听

ACHS principal Jeff Krieger said that Roman鈥檚 QuestBridge scholarship has already begun inspiring other students on campus.听

鈥淲hen others see somebody like them earn it, they believe it鈥檚 possible for them too,鈥 he said. 鈥淕iovanni is the first student at 精东影业 Collegiate High School to actually receive the QuestBridge scholarship, and when he walks that stage in a few months, we鈥檒l all know that we鈥檝e played a part in his success.鈥听

Roman credits 精东影业 Collegiate鈥檚 close鈥knit environment with听helping him reach this milestone.听

鈥淲e鈥檙e a smaller school, but everybody knows each other, and we all help each other out,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hat really played a big role in everything I did here.鈥听

As Roman prepares for his next chapter, he is eager to pursue research, internships, and community service opportunities, all of which play an important role in his goal of attending medical school. Roman hopes his journey encourages other students to take chances on themselves.听

鈥淒on鈥檛 be scared of applying for big scholarships or big colleges,鈥 he said. 鈥淵ou never know what might happen. You鈥檙e more than just what鈥檚 on your application.鈥听

These Vikings are about to make history!

All of the Lamar P-TECH seniors have earned college credit, and 70% will graduate with an associate degree or certificate from All together, they have secured more than $22 million in scholarships. Every senior has a defined post-graduation plan, whether pursuing college, trade school, military, or the workforce.

鈥淟amar P-TECH represents opportunity for students and prepares them for success beyond high school,鈥 said Aretha Hudson, P-TECH counselor. 鈥淲e are proud to provide students with the tools, college experiences, and career pathways needed to thrive in the future.鈥

P-TECH programs are innovative, open-enrollment high schools that give students an opportunity to earn up to 60 hours of free college credit and industry certifications simultaneously. The Lamar High School P-TECH partners with and features academic pathways focused on cybersecurity and business.

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Growth isn鈥檛 linear, and it will take time to figure out your own path. Even if it changes in the future and becomes different from what you expected going into high school or different from the paths of those around you, it鈥檚 your journey that you鈥檙e exploring. Don鈥檛 lose sight of that.

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

I would advise every incoming freshman to plan early! Have a good idea of what you want to major in, research potential colleges/universities, and stay involved in extracurriculars so applying to colleges your senior year will be a walk in the park. High school seems scary but can be conquered with an unwavering drive to succeed.听

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

I will miss the connections I have made with every teacher and faculty member at ACHS. They have left a profound impact on me because of their continuous support throughout my educational journey. My journey had its ups and downs, and they stood by my side despite it all. I will miss them and, most importantly, my friends who I can proudly call my family. Our paths may never cross again, and I will certainly miss our days of laughter, but I will never forget how they made me feel on my worst days.听

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I am excited to not only continue my educational journey but continue making connections with new people I encounter. My biggest goal in life is to be a dependable friend and ally to all walks of life. I am excited to positively impact my community by staying involved with extracurriculars, volunteering, and mentorship opportunities.听

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My mother inspires me the most because, without her, I would not have realized my strengths in journalism and public service. I do not know where I would be today without her endless love and support, and I am eternally grateful for her guidance. I love you mom, and I will always hold your selfless sacrifices dear to my heart.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 your favorite high school memory?

Final exam week was always my favorite part about high school. After our exams, my friends and I would hang out in the study rooms at Tarrant County College to watch YouTube or chat about anything on our minds. These memories will always be the most prominent for me.听

Before they put on their cap and gown for high school graduation, a group of 精东影业 ISD seniors have already crossed a different stage 鈥 one where they received college degrees!

Nearly 200 精东影业 ISD students walked the stage at 2026 commencement ceremony this past weekend, earning associate degrees weeks before receiving their high school diplomas.听

The students hail from 精东影业 Collegiate High School, 精东影业 College and Career High School, Bowie High School, and Lamar High School.

鈥淲e are extremely proud of the 精东影业 ISD students who are graduating with their associate degree from TCC before earning their high school diploma,鈥 said Traci Thomas-Bragg, director of postsecondary partnerships. 鈥淭hese outstanding students began taking college courses during their freshman year of high school and have achieved this remarkable accomplishment debt-free.鈥

Through the district鈥檚 partnership with Tarrant County College, students are able to start taking college courses as early as their freshman year, at no cost to families. The early college and dual鈥慶redit programs allow students to complete up to 60 hours of transferable college credit, giving them a head start toward a bachelor鈥檚 degree or career certification.

This includes students enrolled in P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) programs, which blends high school classes, college courses, and industry training. Students study business and cybersecurity through P-TECH at Lamar and health sciences through P-TECH at Bowie.

鈥淭hrough our partnership with 精东影业 ISD, students are not only earning credentials, they鈥檙e building momentum toward meaningful futures,鈥 TCC Chancellor Elva LeBlanc said. 鈥淭ogether, we are aligning education with opportunity and creating pathways that connect students directly to high-demand careers and continued learning.鈥

Two seniors from Martin High School are officially on their way to becoming engineers after being selected as , one of the most competitive STEM scholarships in the country.听

Months after submitting their applications, Tuyet Do and Julia Tran were surprised with the news during a guest speaker presentation in class. What began as a routine visit quickly became a moment they鈥檒l never forget, as the speaker announced that both students had been selected as scholarship recipients.

The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship provides up to $40,000 in college funding and a paid internship at Amazon after the students鈥 freshman year of college. With thousands of applicants nationwide, earning this recognition is a major accomplishment.听

鈥淭his scholarship has definitely given us a head start,鈥 Tran said. 鈥淚've been struggling with finances and looking for scholarships, trying to find ways to afford college. Now, I can tell my parents that we don鈥檛 have to worry about money.鈥

Tran discovered her passion for engineering through Martin鈥檚 drone team. She helped build drones from the ground up, gaining hands-on experience that set her apart in the competitive scholarship process. She is currently taking classes at the and completing an internship.

鈥淚 had no idea, so when I heard that I won AFE I was really happy,鈥 Do said.

Do is a member of the school鈥檚 HACK Club, where she explores coding, programming, and logistics. Last summer, she used her artistic talent to create visuals for a club event. She says blending creativity with technical skill is a combination that helped her application shine.

鈥淛ulia and Tuyet are guaranteed incredible paying jobs after their first year of college and will be able to continue to build their resumes as they work on their degrees,鈥 said James Hovey, computer science teacher at Martin. 鈥淚 am very proud of both of them and cannot wait to see where their journeys will take them.鈥

Congratulations, Julia and Tuyet!

When Jenna Nguyen, a senior at Martin High School STEM Academy, began her practicum at , she hoped to get some good real-world experience. What she didn鈥檛 expect was that her hard work and dedication would lead to a $1,000 scholarship.

Marquez Bakery recently hosted its second-annual Youth Empowerment Event, designed to help students explore future opportunities, whether that means college or forging their own unique path. During the event, Nguyen was awarded the scholarship, a testament to the impact she made during her time with the business.

Jenna鈥檚 experience working at Marquez is not unique in 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 Career and Technical Education (CTE) practicum program, which offers students meaningful, hands-on learning that connects classroom knowledge with real-world application.

鈥淲e are incredibly proud of our students and the way they represent themselves and our programs,鈥 said Katie Wawak, 精东影业 ISD work based learning specialist. 鈥淲ith approximately 70 business partners and more than 215 student placements, our CTE Practicum provides meaningful, real-world experiences that open doors, making achievements like this scholarship especially rewarding to celebrate.鈥

At Marquez Bakery, Nguyen focused on marketing, creating flyers, promoting events and helping manage social media efforts. Her work didn鈥檛 just stay behind the scenes 鈥 it became part of the customer experience.

鈥淚f you have walked into the bakery, you have seen her work.鈥 said Courtney Leppke, Business Management Practicum teacher at the Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center. 鈥淭here are posters and flyers created by Jenna on display for all customers to see. She is leaving a legacy and deserves to be recognized.鈥

Her impact also stood out to the Marquez Bakery team.

鈥淛enna鈥檚 selection had everything to do with the dedication and passion she showed in her submission,鈥 said Karina Nunez of Marquez Bakery. 鈥淗er words truly reflected the mindset of a scholar who is committed to furthering her education and one day having a classroom of her own.

鈥淲e just wanted to take a moment to let you know how proud we are of her,鈥 Nunez said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to watch all the incredible things she will accomplish in the future. Jenna is truly a great addition to the Marquez team, and we鈥檙e lucky to have her.鈥

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Through her practicum, Nguyen gained valuable insight into running a business while building skills she plans to carry into her future career.

鈥淲hile interning at Marquez, I mainly worked on marketing for their social media platform,鈥 Nguyen said. 鈥淚 made flyers about upcoming deals and events at the bakery and helped them manage some reports. I also worked on preparations for their monthly night market. I believe that this internship allowed me to understand the inner workings of what it means to run a business, and it will allow me to have a firm understanding of how I want to run my future business.鈥

Nguyen plans to attend Texas Woman鈥檚 University after graduation, where she will major in early childhood education and pursue her goal of becoming a first-grade teacher.

鈥淚 want to become the kind of teacher who not only contributes to their academic success but also inspires them to believe in themselves and their abilities,鈥 she said. 鈥淎fter I become a teacher, I want to continue running a small bakery on the side and use my experience from working at the bakery to help grow my business.鈥

A Program That Opens Doors

Jenna strongly encourages other students to consider enrolling in a practicum.

鈥淚 would absolutely recommend practicums to other students,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great way to get hands-on experience in the field you are interested in. These experiences offer valuable hands-on experience, allowing you to explore whether your career path aligns with your interests and goals.鈥

Her journey also highlights how taking a chance can lead to unexpected opportunities.

鈥淚f you never take the risk, you鈥檒l never know what could鈥檝e happened and you鈥檒l always be wondering 鈥榳hat if,鈥欌 Nguyen said. 鈥淚 honestly wasn鈥檛 even going to take a practicum class at first but I鈥檓 glad that I decided to do it because without the class I wouldn鈥檛 have all these opportunities available to me.鈥

There鈥檚 also another bonus to taking a practicum through 精东影业 ISD.

鈥淧lus, if anyone decides to do the Business Management Practicum, you鈥檒l have the sweetest teacher and her amazing joke of the day,鈥 Nguyen said. 鈥淚 want to thank Mrs. Leppke for my internship at听Marquez听because without her none of this would鈥檝e been possible.鈥

精东影业 ISD鈥檚 Class of 2025 is rolling in millions. Millions in scholarship dollars, that is.

The more than 4,100 精东影业 ISD seniors who walked across the stage this month are officially done with high school and on to the next stage of their lives. For many, that means college, and this group is well-prepared. In fact, the Class of 2025 has earned more than $60.9 million in college scholarships so far.

That number speaks to how impressive these students are.

Like the district鈥檚 Gates Scholars: John Nguyen and Evelyn Rosales from 精东影业 Collegiate High School and Abner Mejia-Lopez from Sam Houston High School.

鈥淥ur district has three students who received the highly selective ,鈥 said Meggan Horne, 精东影业 ISD guidance and counseling specialist. 鈥淟ess than 1% of applicants actually win this scholarship.鈥

Or the 15 other Sam Houston grads who earned full scholarships to Texas Christian University.

Or Venture High School鈥檚 Aaron Gray with nearly $50,000 to go to Texas State.

Then there鈥檚 Lamar grad Jovani Sanchez who pulled in over $1 million in scholarships by himself.

And he wasn鈥檛 the only one. Martin High School鈥檚 Bryan Chan did that, too. Plus, he picked up the Amazon Future Engineers scholarship to go along with his full ride to Duke University.

There are also 92 student athletes who netted $5.6 million in scholarships to 70 different colleges.

And that鈥檚 just a few examples.

But one thing all of these scholarship winners had in common was significant support from their school counselors.

"Our counselors work tirelessly every year to help our students gain the financial means to pursue their post-secondary dreams,鈥 said Meggan Horne.

Thanks to those counselors and the students鈥 hard work, those post-secondary dreams are now real life.

As they head off into that life, Traci Thomas-Bragg, 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 director of postsecondary partnerships, wants to give the graduates one last reminder. Thomas-Bragg led the team that coordinated 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 graduation ceremonies.

鈥淚 would admonish graduates to remember,听鈥榊our education is a dress rehearsal for a life that is yours to lead.鈥"听

Congrats Class of 2025!听

Early graduation helps sisters chase dreams

Graduating from high school is always a proud moment 鈥 but for twin sisters Caila and Cristian Owens, the moment came a little earlier than expected.

The two walked the stage together last week at 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 Dr. Marcelo Center for Visual and Performing Arts, celebrating not only their graduation from Venture High School, but their decision to take control of their futures.听

Venture, the district鈥檚 non-traditional campus, offers a unique model built around flexibility, self-paced learning and personal support. For students like Caila and Cristian, it created the opportunity to accelerate their education 鈥 and their dreams.听

鈥淭he benefit of me graduating early is being able to get a head start on college, giving me more time to plan things out for myself,鈥 Caila said. 鈥淚 sought out the opportunity to graduate early because of wanting to get a jump on the rest of my life. Venture has always helped me with everything, and for that, I know I will be very successful.鈥听

After graduation, Caila will attend her dream college 鈥 鈥 where she plans to become a NICU nurse.听

鈥淚 am very thankful that Venture has already made some of my dreams possible,鈥 she said.听

Cristian will also head to Clark Atlanta University and says early graduation made a real impact on her life.听

鈥淕raduating early has been amazing,鈥 she said.听鈥淚 will get an early start with college and planning my life out successfully. I sought out the opportunity to graduate earlier because I had a goal to get into my dream college. I accomplished my goal, and now I鈥檓 entering a new chapter thanks to Venture High School.鈥听

Both sisters credit Venture not just with helping them graduate early, but with helping them believe in what鈥檚 possible. The support they听received gave them the confidence and momentum to pursue their dreams on their own timeline.听

Venture Principal Greg Meeks said the Owens sisters represent what鈥檚 possible when students are given the tools, space and encouragement to succeed.听

鈥淭he twins began their original high school career with us at Venture,鈥 he said. 鈥淏oth completed four to five years of school in the span of three years. They are the visual representation that if you open creativity, styles of learning and flexibility, students can strive while not being tied down to the normal walls and parameters in education.鈥听

Venture鈥檚 flexible, student-centered approach 鈥 including the ability to move faster or slower through 85 different classes 鈥 helps students truly take ownership of their education.听

鈥淭he benefits of Venture are many,鈥 Meeks said. "Flexibility, ability to go faster, ability to slow down in struggle subjects and the ability to move to your next step of life with a successful hard-earned high school diploma.鈥听

Venture graduates an average of 240 to 310 students each year and many of those 鈥 like the Owens twins 鈥 walk the stage early, ready to begin their next journey.听

鈥淚f it were not for Venture, I may not have been able to even graduate on time, but now I am ready to get an early start on college,鈥 Cristian said. 鈥淭hank you so much, Venture High School!鈥

5th year in a row Martin students have earned scholarship

Bryan Chan sees camping out for basketball tickets in his future.

The Martin High School STEM Academy 2025 graduate is heading to to study electrical and computer engineering 鈥 and to become an avid Blue Devil basketball fan. His future school is known for its that camps out in line to get tickets for basketball games. 听

While Chan doesn鈥檛 have any of those coveted basketball tickets yet, he got something even more desirable last week. And it came in the mail 鈥 in an Amazon box.

Chan opened that box last week in front of several of his Martin teachers and administrators. Inside was a certificate declaring Chan the recipient of an scholarship and internship. There was a nice Amazon hoodie in the box, too.

The highly-competitive scholarship offers up to $40,000 at the school of the recipient鈥檚 choice along with an internship at Amazon.

鈥淭he internship is the big deal,鈥 said Martin STEM teacher James Hovey. 鈥淎fter freshman year, they pay you over the summer more than $10,000 a month, plus they pay you housing.鈥

Hovey is himself a big deal at Martin and a big reason that Martin students have won this Amazon scholarship in each of the last five years.

鈥淟ook at Mr. Hovey over there,鈥 Chan said after opening the box. 鈥淗e鈥檚 been my teacher for four years and he鈥檚 just really motivated me to get to where I am today. I couldn鈥檛 have done it without him.鈥

Chan is grateful for the support he received at Martin and for what this Amazon opportunity means.

鈥淚鈥檝e just been like, wow, I really do have the opportunity to intern in Seattle, meet all these new people and work for Amazon,鈥 he said, now wearing the new hoodie. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the best head start I could have in my life.鈥

P-TECH seniors earned associate degrees, too

The Bowie High School P-TECH seniors have done a lot of walking lately.

The first-ever senior class is set to walk across the stage at Bowie鈥檚 graduation on Tuesday. But for most of these students, the walk across the stage at Globe Life Field won鈥檛 be their first. Many walked last week, too, at the graduation.

That鈥檚 right. They graduated with their associate degrees before they鈥檇 even received their high school diplomas.

One of the grads is Roselin Reju, Bowie鈥檚 2025 valedictorian.

Reju and her P-TECH classmates were the first cohort in the program when they started at Bowie four years ago. 鈥 Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools 鈥 give students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time.

One of four P-TECHs in 精东影业 ISD, Bowie鈥檚 program is the only one focused on health sciences. Students can select from four fields of study, including pharmacy technician, central sterile processing, health information systems or ophthalmology. And a close partnership with allows for work-based, real-world opportunities for the students.

鈥淭he P-TECH is particularly important because it exposes students to real-life situations as well as allowing them to connect what they learn in the classroom to what they want to be in the health care field,鈥 said P-TECH chemistry teacher Minh Dang.

The health sciences P-TECH is the reason Reju chose to go to Bowie.

鈥淚 feel like it helps in the long run that we鈥檙e able to take these early classes and get college credit,鈥 Reju said.

Reju didn鈥檛 just obtain her associate degree while at Bowie, she also earned her pharmacy technician certification through classes at the 精东影业 ISD Career and Technical Center, which allows her to work at any pharmacy in Texas right after high school.

The pharmacy experience has helped Reju clarify what she wants to do after graduation.

鈥淏y being able to experience working as a pharmacist, I realized that it wasn鈥檛 the job for me,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 actually want to be a doctor, which I wouldn鈥檛 have known if it wasn't for P-TECH giving me that chance.鈥

Fellow graduate Juan Guzman also credits his real-world experiences through Bowie P-TECH with setting him on the career path he wants.

Guzman was one of two seniors who got to work as a sterilization technician in a local dental office. The paid internship allowed him to practice what he learned in the classroom in a real healthcare setting and see how everything really works.

Guzman worked two shifts a week, five to six hours a day, sterilizing and stocking equipment and setting up things for patients.

鈥淚t is really fast paced,鈥 Guzman said. 鈥淵ou need to keep up with things. It鈥檚 been pretty great.鈥

It鈥檚 exactly why he wanted to join the P-TECH program at Bowie.

鈥淭his was to gain experience in the medical field and hopefully have a shot at college,鈥 said Guzman, who plans to focus on nursing in college.

鈥淚t shows that I prepared, that I'm ready, that I'm determined,鈥 Guzman said about his P-TECH experience. 鈥淚'm glad that it was an opportunity that we all were able to have.鈥

Congratulations to everyone in the first-ever Bowie P-TECH graduating class!

Sanchez known for his quiet determination听

In the crowded halls of Lamar High School, one senior stands out 鈥 not for being the loudest or most outspoken, but for the quiet determination that has carried him to an extraordinary milestone. Jovani Sanchez, a student in the AVID program at Lamar, has earned more than $1 million in scholarships and grants, setting him on a path to become a first-generation college student and future accountant.

It鈥檚 a story of faith, family and focus.

Born into a hardworking Mexican American family, Sanchez has always understood the value of education. He is quick to credit his parents鈥 sacrifices as his greatest motivation.

鈥淢y biggest motivation is my parents,鈥 Sanchez said. 鈥淚鈥檝e seen how hard they work and how much they鈥檝e sacrificed for me. Every scholarship I applied for was to take that pressure off of them and to show them that their love and support was enough, and that I鈥檝e done my part, too.鈥

Sanchez鈥檚 college journey will begin this fall at , where he plans to major in accounting. His goal? To earn his CPA and eventually carve out a career in either auditing or entrepreneurship. But more than any job title, he wants a future that honors his roots.

鈥淲hatever path I choose, I want it to reflect where I come from and what I鈥檝e grown into,鈥 he explained. 鈥淓verything I do is through and for God and for my family.鈥

Sanchez鈥檚 AVID teacher, Sarah Chrystie at Lamar, describes him as 鈥渙ne of a kind.鈥

鈥淗e embodies what it means to be an AVID student,鈥 she said. 鈥淛ovani is always competing against the best version of himself. Even though he鈥檚 more reserved, he鈥檚 a strong leader in our class and in our program. He asks questions, seeks growth and never settles. It鈥檚 been a blessing to work with him.鈥

This year, Sanchez was named a T3 Scholar for TCU and was one of three Dell Scholarship finalists at Lamar High School, an incredible honor that reflects his tenacity and drive.

Beyond the accolades, however, is a student who understands the power of purpose. For Sanchez, the journey isn鈥檛 just personal, it鈥檚 cultural and communal.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of my Mexican background,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 carry more than my own goals; I carry my family鈥檚 dreams, too. I want to show other students, especially those with Mexican heritage, that we can do this. That we鈥檙e capable. That we belong in these spaces, too.鈥

Sanchez鈥檚 story is more than an academic success, it鈥檚 a testament to what鈥檚 possible when resilience meets opportunity. As he prepares to take his next steps at TCU, he does so with humility, hope and a heart full of gratitude.

鈥淚鈥檓 still growing, and there鈥檚 still so much to learn,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut I know who I鈥檓 doing this for.鈥

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

My one piece of advice would be to be as open as possible to any experiences you can be a part of and say yes to as many things as possible during your four years because they will become some of the fondest memories you will look back on once you graduate. Getting involved with multiple things has allowed me to be friends with all kinds of people and learn so many life lessons that I will carry forward with me to college.

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

I will miss the routine of high school and getting to see my friends, teachers and coaches every single day in class and during practice after school. They have made high school so enjoyable and I will miss getting to hang out with them and spend time together.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I am most excited to move in at TCU and begin meeting so many new people through orientation, Frog Camp and the first week of classes on campus. I鈥檓 also super excited to begin diving deeper into two majors that I love and learning everything I can academically while also becoming involved in the many things TCU has to offer.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My mom is my biggest inspiration and also my biggest cheerleader in every aspect of my life. She is always doing things for others without expecting a thank you in return and is incredibly patient and kind to everyone she meets, which is something I strive to be. She is my role model and she inspires me everyday to achieve my goals and continue to better myself both academically and as a person in general.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory was joining the golf team as a senior because it felt like I had known the team my entire life after they had welcomed me with open arms and so much love. I loved getting to spend my afternoons golfing and talking with some of my best friends every day, laughing and eating ice cream after a long tournament day, and learning to become a better golf player thanks to my awesome coaches who worked with me everyday.听

Alex Martinez picks up job skills in high school

Alex Martinez is graduating from 精东影业 High School next week, and he knows exactly where he鈥檚 going.

That鈥檚 because he鈥檚 been working on his future for years through 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 career and technical education (CTE) program. He鈥檚 already well on his way to achieving his goals thanks to the skills and experiences he gained while still in high school.

鈥淚 currently have a position secured with a major electrical contractor in the DFW area,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淭his company is a strong fit for my values and goals, and I鈥檓 confident that I can contribute meaningfully to its mission. I am committed to providing the highest level of professional service and look forward to continuing to grow my customer service and relationship-building skills."

Martinez plans to use this experience to propel him to his ultimate goal 鈥 to own his own electrical contractor company.

听鈥淢y goal is to be at the top of electrical contractors in the DFW,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淚 want my company to stand for a strong work ethic and operational excellence.鈥

Martinez is well on his way to his goal. He is graduating from high school a year early and is already working toward his journeyman鈥檚 license. But he didn鈥檛 just gain technical skills at 精东影业 High. He also developed the discipline and drive needed to thrive in his field 鈥 hallmarks of a high-quality CTE program.

鈥淎lex is one of the hardest workers I have ever had the honor of teaching,鈥 said Christopher Grimaldo, 精东影业 High鈥檚 construction teacher. 鈥淗is work ethic is second to none, and his ability to adapt is exactly what we aim to build in all our students. Alex is the epitome of what an 精东影业 student is: smart, kind-hearted, passionate, determined and loyal. I am extremely proud of Alex and all his accomplishments.鈥

Through Grimaldo鈥檚 hands-on construction classes and student leadership opportunities in the school鈥檚 construction club, students gain real-world experience and career-ready skills. From tool safety to time management, and from teamwork to leadership, these programs ensure students are ready for both the workforce and higher education.

鈥淚t鈥檚 fun,鈥 said Martinez. 鈥淚t鈥檚 really hands-on.鈥

That hands-on learning approach is what sets CTE apart. Students don鈥檛 just study concepts, they apply them.

鈥淭he best way to learn in construction is through repetition,鈥 Grimaldo said. 鈥淪tudents also develop leadership, flexibility and problem-solving 鈥 skills that are vital in any industry.鈥

Martinez served as a board member for 精东影业 High鈥檚 construction management team, helping organize events and coordinating with business sponsors. That role sharpened his communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

鈥淚鈥檝e worked on communicating effectively and solving problems,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淭hese are things I鈥檒l carry with me throughout my career.鈥

Martinez is grateful for the education and opportunities he received during his high school career and appreciates the leadership and direction his teachers provided.

鈥淚 would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Grimaldo for his guidance and support throughout my high school journey,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淗is passion for teaching the construction trade and dedication to his students have inspired me to work hard and stay focused on my goals. I truly appreciate the impact he has made on my education and future.鈥

Martinez and his peers are proof that CTE in 精东影业 ISD doesn鈥檛 just prepare students for a job 鈥 it prepares them for lifelong success in whatever field they want to pursue.

鈥淗aving a robust CTE program in 精东影业 ISD allows students and families to experience a vast menu of courses and gain job-ready skills that can lead to a positive income stream as soon as they graduate high school,鈥 said Susan Patterson, 精东影业 ISD鈥檚 CTE director.

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Learn how to prioritize events, assignments and sleep. It鈥檇 be great if you could always get enough of each, but the reality is some days will require sacrifice. So learn to pick and choose. Organize yourself and be ready for anything and everything.

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

The times I spent laughing with all my friends when someone told an inside joke. Watching our teachers鈥 puzzled faces only made us laugh harder. Those jokes were built over our four years of high school, and I鈥檓 really going to miss the people who shared them with me.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I鈥檓 excited for the opportunity to study abroad, especially the chance to travel around Europe. I鈥檓 really hoping I get to watch FC Barcelona play live; that would be a dream come true.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

Abner Mejia Lopez is a close friend with whom I鈥檝e had a friendly competition throughout high school. He inspires me with the confidence and determination he showed while pursuing prestigious scholarships and competitions. Through careful planning and dedication, he reached those goals on his own. He has a deep knowledge of history, chemistry and writing, and I often turn to him when I need something proofread or have questions. I hope to follow his example. Pursuing knowledge and aiming for the most prestigious accomplishments.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 your favorite high school memory?

My favorite memory is Senior Sunset, being chased with buckets filled with water and having them dumped on us was a great experience. We were able to have fun again like kids without phones and just being ourselves.

Eagle Scout about to become a Naval Academy midshipman

Determined, passionate and fearless, he鈥檚 Martin High School graduate and soon-to-be midshipman Owen Hulme. 听

Hulme听is ready to听embrace the challenges of the four-year academy.听

鈥淚t鈥檚 been lots of running and lots of working out,鈥 Hulme said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also been lots of studying on naval history.鈥听

For Hulme, his journey into the military is about more than just serving his country. It鈥檚 also about learning to lead those around him. 听

鈥淚 want to serve as an officer,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 want to lead my brothers and sisters in arms. I鈥檝e always liked standing up and leading the people around me. I want to learn from the best.鈥听

In fact, Hulme鈥檚 leadership has always been evident through his involvement at Martin as a swim team captain, roboboat member and active participant in his STEM courses. 听

Inspired by book 鈥,鈥 Hulme felt destined to enter the Naval Academy after graduation. 听

鈥淩eading about his story and what he had to overcome, it really pushed me,鈥 Hulme said. 鈥淭he caliber of people I wanted to work with was exactly who was represented in the book.鈥 听

That鈥檚 also why听 leader and former Army Ranger John Burdick has helped mentor Hulme along the way. 听

鈥淗e helped me a lot in figuring out what I wanted to do and what the best way to do that was,鈥 Hulme said. 听

As a thirty-year veteran, Burdick knows Hulme will make an outstanding officer one day.听

鈥淗e鈥檚 a great scout and a great young man,鈥 Burdick said. 鈥淲hen you think of an Eagle Scout and what comes to mind 鈥 a person always willing to take charge, be a leader, jump in to help wherever it鈥檚 needed, carries a great personality, upbeat and helpful 鈥 that's Owen.鈥听

After submitting over 15 essays and earning a congressional听nomination, Hulme was accepted into the academy with a full scholarship. 听

For students interested in following the same path, Hulme鈥檚 advice is simple.听

鈥淕et started on the application process as early as you can and believe in yourself,鈥 he said. 听

Later this month, Hulme will make his way to the academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he plans to major in ocean engineering. After he graduates, he鈥檒l embark on an eight-year commitment in the Navy, five of which will be served on active duty.听

鈥淚 am so incredibly proud of him, and I am overjoyed that he made it in,鈥 Burdick said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 worked so hard to achieve this goal. Anybody who sees his success can take that from it. If you have a goal, it is absolutely possible to achieve it.鈥 听

His story inspires his peers听to have the strength never to give up on their dreams.听听

鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot of hard work, you鈥檝e got to want it,鈥 he听said. 鈥淏ut it鈥檚 so worth it.鈥听

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Focus more on making friends, especially in your freshman year, because it鈥檚 going to be your easiest year in high school. I got to meet all my friends my freshman year and I was friends with them all four years and they were truly my support system to make it this far.

鈱狪f you were a superhero, which one would you be and why?

The thing is I don鈥檛 watch that many superhero movies. The only one I really watched was Spiderman because I think he鈥檚 really cool. He鈥檚 very charismatic.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I鈥檓 pretty excited to meet new people because, especially at a small school like Seguin, I鈥檝e known these people for at least four years. One of my closest friends I鈥檝e known for 14 years. I鈥檝e known her since pre-K. I think going into college I鈥檓 going to see so many more people and so many different people from different backgrounds and I鈥檓 very excited to see that.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

This is a very easy question for me. It鈥檚 my oldest brother (Hieu) because he was the very first child in our family to ever go to college. He was very driven. He didn鈥檛 do extremely well in high school but in college he studied super hard and worked so hard on top of being the translator for my parents whenever they needed help with the bills or with the taxes or with the internet system. He was the translator on top of managing school. He even made it to dental school and he鈥檚 graduating this year, and his work and his determination and his passion really inspires me. I can work hard to support my family in the future.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 been your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory was the senior pep rally. I got to see a lot of people that I know, and I haven鈥檛 seen in a long time. I feel like it was a last goodbye because I may not be able to see those people at graduation. It was also really funny because our teachers got to loosen up and they performed a couple of dances. It was definitely memorable.

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

One piece of advice would be to not only focus on your long-term achievements, but also enjoy your high school life while you have it.

鈱狪f you were a superhero, which one would you be and why?

I would be Supergirl because even though she鈥檚 a superhero she also deals with personal struggles, and she learns along the way how to deal with those.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I鈥檓 most excited about branching out and seeing how I learn in an independent way and leaving the support of my parents and seeing how I grow as a person.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My oldest sister (Sophia) inspires me the most. She鈥檚 a role model for me. She inspires me the most to achieve success.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 been your favorite high school memory?

Going to the homecoming football game my senior year. It felt very nostalgic to me. It was the last game I was at.

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Try new things. Don鈥檛 be afraid to be a leader even if others will judge you. Just go out and join any clubs or organizations and become the leader, become the president. Do something outrageous, something spontaneous. 听

鈱狪f you were a superhero, which one would you be and why?

I鈥檇 be Batman because he鈥檚 a character who wants to make connections to solve crimes and solve problems on his own. He doesn鈥檛 like depending on individuals. He does things on his own and believes in himself.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

Obviously go to college and finally meet individuals who have the same goals as me, more people in the school of engineering in the school I鈥檓 going to at UT-Austin. Hopefully work on a project that will change the world while I use my skills from my degree.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

For me it would be Dr. (Robert) Oppenheimer. He was the leader of the Manhattan Project that made the atomic bomb. That鈥檚 something I want to do. I want to make something that will revolutionize the world by bringing together a lot of individuals who will work on a common goal. I want to change the world through technology.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 been your favorite high school memory?

When I went to go watch a soccer game where I saw all my old teammates and they won. It started raining, and that made it exciting. Afterwards we went to CiCi鈥檚 Pizza and we had a good time talking and catching up with each other.

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

I would say don鈥檛 let yourself get pressured into things. I think that interests in subjects and organizations should develop naturally and not just because you want to be with your friends. If you want to go somewhere 鈥 to a meeting or event that your friends don鈥檛 鈥 don鈥檛 be afraid to go there alone. It鈥檚 your life and you should live it according to what you want to do.

鈱狪f you were a superhero, which one would you be and why?

I think I鈥檇 want to be Spiderman because I think it鈥檚 empowering. Most of what he does is with his own body and just to have that range of motion, imagine the tricks you could do as Spiderman. It would be really cool.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

It鈥檚 kind of clich茅, but honestly just meeting new people. I鈥檓 going to UT and it鈥檚 pretty large. I鈥檓 going to meet a lot of people in similar paths as me and people who also have different paths. I think that鈥檚 exciting.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

All of my family inspires me because they are so goal oriented, but my brother [Ray] is someone I鈥檝e been looking up to my whole life. He鈥檚 always been a few steps ahead of me because he鈥檚 a little bit older than me, but I think it鈥檚 really amazing he鈥檚 been able to pioneer his own path with basically no advice from anyone else.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 been your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory was the senior pep rally. I got to see a lot of people that I know, and I haven鈥檛 in a long time. 鈱狪f you were a superhero, which one would you be and why?

听I鈥檇 be Captain America. There was a scene when he attempted to pick up Thor鈥檚 hammer. He moved it a little bit. He鈥檚 not worthy just yet. Later in Endgame, we see he carries a hammer and he鈥檚 worthy of the responsibilities. Even if you鈥檙e not ready for something, you鈥檙e going to work hard on it and be ready.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I鈥檓 excited to meet new people, all the new opportunities. Hopefully I鈥檒l get internships, jobs, network and have that exposure in the world and hopefully succeed.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My dad inspires me the most. He鈥檚 the reason I鈥檓 here. He鈥檚 the reason I have that drive to want something better in life. He鈥檚 my hero.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 been your favorite high school memory?

When I got the school record for the 3,200-meter run in track. I was at Texas A&M. Having my friends there and the people I run with almost every day was just the best feeling. And receiving those phone calls from my parents, my other friends, people who have graduated, people back home, it was a blessing to know I was doing something that was getting recognized and it was something good.
