����Ӱҵ School Nurses brighten the holidays

The holiday season is a little brighter for those in need thanks to the help of the ����Ӱҵ School Nurses Association.

Members of put together more than 80 kits full of essential items and delivered them to the before the Thanksgiving break.   

The kits included everything from toothpaste to deodorant, and some included words of encouragement.

“This was amazing,” said Elizabeth Hammond, the development manager for ����Ӱҵ Life Shelter. “This will get us through for a minute.”

Nurses from throughout the ����Ӱҵ ISD collected the items for the kits and then assembled them. Lisa Staples-Wherry, the nurse at Johns Elementary, is the president of ASNA. She delivered the kits along with Robin Richard, who is the nurse at Sherrod Elementary.

ASNA provides scholarships to UT ����Ӱҵ nursing students and participates in a community service project every year. This year they added this project.

“The shelter’s director was overwhelmed with gratitude and thankful their organization was selected as benefactors,” Staples-Wherry said.

ASNA’s vision is to promote a positive professional image of school nursing by supporting evidenced-based nursing practices, continued professional education and leadership development. ASNA’s mission is to support the school nurses’ primary health care role and be an advocate for the well-being, academic success and life-long achievements of students under their care, and help steward the nursing profession.
